Look to What You DON’T Know.

Will Rogers, one of yesteryear’s revered comedic and philosophical figures, once said this:

Our Disingenuous American Congress

This week the US House passed a resolution condemning the genocide of Armenians by the Ottoman Empire…….intended to be a thumb in the eye of the Turks for their incursion into the Kurdish area of northern Syria after BMT abandoned the Kurds, our allies who lost 10,000 men and women fighting with the USA to quell the ISIL

One Representative voted “Present”…. Ilhan Omar, and now she is catching hell for not voting Yes.  I stand with her.

This resolution will do nothing to help the Kurds and only has pissed off the Turks.  But there is a much larger reason for my standing with Rep. Omar:

Where are the similar resolutions against China, for the genocide in Tibet?  And right now, the “re-eduation” camps of over a million Uyghers, indigenous Muslims of China?

BUT, what really galls me is the failure of the United States to formally and officially apologize to African Americans for the over 400 years of slavery and the continuing oppression of Blacks in this Country!

Then there is our penal system, which has the greatest number of incarcerated humans in the world, with a very disproportionate number people of color.

Come on Speaker Pelosi, let’s get real ok!

Politrix is NOT Humanity!!!

The New Immigrants: Robots

So do we need a “big beautiful wall to keep them out?

The fact is that human immigrants are not stealing jobs; 99% of the jobs they fill few US citizens want to do or even will do.  But today I am not here to debate this moot issue, rather I want the reader to reflect critically on the possible real impact of robotics and AI (artificial intelligence).  I don’t want to look far into the future, but rather just conjecture on say the next 10 years.

Robotics (and AI that controls them) are the new immigrants. THESE new immigrants will take jobs from citizens, yet where is the outcry and concern except from other than a handful of very smart people, Andrew Yang for instance (and myself of course…LOL).

There is no wall that can be built to keep out these agile minded “guys.”  They are coming in caravans and hoards.  Beware.

There are few jobs, especially ones that follow a rather narrow script of activities:  from factory jobs to call centers, that will not be impacted.  Of course call centers largely have been shipped “off shore,” to India and Mexico and Jamaica, et al.  But AI will bring the cost down to the point where multi-nationals opt to just connect you to the big AI help desk in the sky.  So it is not only the United States that will be challenged by these pesky AI creatures, but rather much of the first and second worlds.

If you are in any job that frankly is “low wages,” you really need to be thinking about what to do after you get your notice.  What can you do?  Train in HIGH technology is one option:  smart people first have to make robots and initialize AI programming for these immigrants to perform.  So you can train to become one of the “technologists” or even better, a “keeper,” as I call these new classes of human workers.  Because of the profits from relegating low wage jobs and benefits more and more to the pile of obsolescence, like mining coal for instance, there will be no stopping the tide of robotics and AI, so YOU must RE-INVENT yourself!

This may require MOVING physically to locations where smart jobs are or will be placed, which for now are cities like Austin, Texas for example; to get the type of training you will need you also will likely have to relocate, for a lot of the low wage jobs now are at factories and facilities sited in the heart land of America, plants that will use robotics soon if not already, but who will NOT be offering any education to employees:  they will turn to the universal pool of people who have the knowledge they need, and not be altruistic in retraining their current employees. (I realize some are, but consider fully where that training may lead.  Think BIG PICTURE, LONG TERM.)

So what will be a few of the potential societal impacts of this flood of new immigrants?  There will be effectively created a new age stratification of our society:  an increasing very low income level at the bottom of the economy, increasingly highly dependent on “welfare” (or crime), and sadly, those of color will be triply effected due the present enormous inequities of capital and income;  and right above them will be the Technologists, able to sustain and increase incomes to some extent, but forever locked into the “middle class” state; above these techies will be the “Keepers” of the robotics and AI, highly educated and specialized people whose incomes far surpass those below…..these are the new “doctors, lawyers and engineers” who even today are seeing their heyday wane; then at the very top are the owners of all the robots and all the AI.  These people, mostly people and families who already control most of the capital and wealth in the world, will have incomes that are light years ahead of all others.

The mobility of human workers to move up from the “welfare” class to say the “keepers” level will be close to impossible.  Most everyone will be captive in their respective classes.  But is that much different from today’s scenario?  Not really, but the future does not bode well for a reduction in the number of people and families at the two bottom levels of the hierarchy.  This is why, if you are smart, you will do everything you can to determine what education or training will help you to the next level, and get that training now, no matter what it takes.  The future of yourself, your progeny and theirs depends on conscious decisions you make in the next 18-24 months.

Now there are other choices, if you don’t want to “play the game.”  You can choose to live your life without worrying about income, and be a free spirit, a free agent even, using your common sense, inventiveness and native creativity to enjoy life as it comes.  Become the antithesis of this robotic world, a 21st century hippie, finding novel ways to stay afloat, being aware that within you is the power to live your life unfettered by “intelligence.”  That is not a bad option really.

The Racial Miseducation of America’s Children

It seems like eons since I sat in my high school American history class.  At the time, history and government were by far and away my two most un-favorite subjects.  Had I only had wonderful teachers – as I had in my two favorite sujects – math and science – that might have been different, but I did not.  Today I would place the importance of those two right next to the advanced math and physics courses in importance:  the latter two helped me into an engineering career of 50 years.  The first two would have helped me be a better citizen over those years.  I haven’t been in a high school classroom since I graduated, but I have a hunch that what “kids” are being taught today is not far from what I may have been presented with, especially on the subject of the Civil War and slavery, and of course, the well-concealed subject of “whiteness,” and white people’s privileges.

More than half of teachers across America say they are comfortable talking about slavery as a condition, within their classrooms.  But no matter how good the teachers are, or how “open” they are to discussing these difficult subjects, they are challenged and controlled by the laws of their states and local school boards, and totally hamstrung with having to use text books and materials that generally fail grossly to present slavery and its full history and context, especially from the viewpoint of those enslaved.

This study pulls back the covers on the sorry state of what and how America teaches its progeny about these subjects that today continue to divide us at our dinner tables and within our places of worship as well:

https://www.splcenter.org/20180131/teaching-hard-history#summary

I live in Texas, and am a 6th generation version.  Some of my ancestors who moved to Texas before the end of the Civil War, apparently “had” slaves.  One of my G-g-g-grandfathers was a Mississippi plantation owner during the War and had slaves.  After the war he moved to Dallas, and is buried there.  I would love to have seen his eyes when I married my black Queen in Dallas, some 50 years ago.  Only last year did the Texas school book “approvers” vote to give slavery equal footing with “states’ rights” in our new textbooks.  I am happy, but sad and mad about this situation.

The problem across the US is that education is as politicized as any other “social” matter.  When you live in a society that has kept the realities of these subjects and topics essentially under lock and key, and in many states so-called “conservatives” having swallowed the keys, obviously we are years and years from resolving this educational matter.  By not resolving it, we are just renewing the policies of segregation, discrimination, hate and violence and domestic terrorism that are today the hallmarks of America core.

I have faith, though, that one day, the Truths will set America free.  Until that day, let us keep doing what each of us can to make it happen!

“Emancipate Our (WHITE) Selves from Mental Slavery….

None but Ourselves Can Free Our Minds.”  Parroting Bob’s words from Redemption Songs, with a twist of the trope.

The problem WHITE folks, is that Most of We white people do not even recognize our own “whiteness.”  We also are unaware that “whiteness” was essentially created during the 17th Century in Virginia, when the “slave codes” were written, drawing a line between indentured poor-ass Europeans servants and enslaved Blacks.  The intent was a result of Bacon’s rebellion, which lasted some years, and in the aftermath the ruling class of nobles recognized they needed to make the lower class servants feel like they were aligned in some way (being from Europe) with the “masters,” thereby preempting any future cooperation of the servants and poor Europeans with black slaves.  During these years “whiteness” came into being only because of the codified subjugation and harsh punitive laws pertaining to black slaves.  (Any astute reader immediately sees that this condition still exist, when less than 1% of whites control over 99% of the capital in the US; yet, the average White thinks – consciously or subconsciously – she/ he is better than the average Black.  Of course, during the Sixties Dixiecrats labeled anyone who advocated alliance of whites and people of color as “communists.”

So guys, before then we Whites were just people….just like Blacks were just people within their own continent, Africa.  Our whiteness could not exist apart from the cruelties of the original sin of institutionalized slavery in this America.  “White people” and the concomitant “whiteness” are both mental constructs that would not exist if there was never any historical or contemporary contact between those of European descent and those peoples of Africa and the diaspora.  “White” people do not exist without Blacks! (As a sidebar, many Whites have African dna – like myself.)

As for “race,” there is only one race, the human (“hue-mon”) race.  White people cannot continue thinking as “whites,” if we are ever to reach our full potential as PEOPLE, as Divine Creations.

The problem that ensued, however, is that while we Whites enjoyed and enjoy all the freedoms appertaining to “being” in the ruling authority class, we mostly are unaware of our “whiteness.”  Although we may feel the rumblings in recent years of the shift that will undoubtedly force us to confront the absence of self-awareness of our fortunate predicament and its daily manifestations and agencies to the demise of people of color, most of us just continue to move through our daily lives “dumber than a stump.”

I suggest WE all get educated and hip to our “whiteness” – beginning today.  The salvation of the so-called “free world” depends on it.  We Whites today are the gatekeepers of access and attainment in a large part of societies hierarchies.  Only when the people who are sitting in those positions of power either began to recognize their “whiteness” and begin to change themselves and their inherent biases – or when people in those positions of power began to be more and more people of color (which is not happening quickly enough by any measure) – will America (and Europe) begin to energize its full potential as a society confronting much greater problems to the survival of “hue-mon” kind.

Given that all of we Whites grew up in “whiteness,” we are blinded just like being snow blinded.  Most of us are not bad people, but out of total ignorance we accept our own lives as the “norm,” and acquiesce to situations and conditions that negatively impact the daily lives of people of color, and we do so without even thinking of it, because of our IGNORANCE.

Here are a few references to get you going on your “whiteness” educational journey:

Search Google and You Tube “Dr. Robin DiAngelo.”  She is an educator and lecturer who has focused on “whiteness” for decades, and will “wake you up.”

Search Google and You Tube for “Jane Elliott.”  She is a pioneer white educator who created the “blue eyes, brown eyes” experiment and has conducted sessions for decades.

This is “The Chosen One”?

I cannot conceive of a more appropriate image for BMT (Bottomless Moral Turpitude…..aka that which occupies the Oval Office) than this fish flip flopping as it dies a slow death on the dock of the world sea.

BMT flip flops on positions and issues and “promises” every time his lips move, and his cohorts just keep trying to make that fish stay flat on one side, for one day at least.  It’s hilarious.  But, no, it’s not….BMT holds the highest and most powerful office in the world mind you, so these indicators that he is in need of a 72 hour psychiatric watch is some serious “s___!”

We should all mark on our calendars August 22, 2019, when he declared, looking toward the sky, that he is The Chosen One.  And right beside that annotation on your calendar, put “King of Israel,” another of his declarations for that fateful date that may be one of historical infamy.

How the Republican leadership, as apparently heartless and evil as they are, would continue to support someone who cannot even consistently articulate their own sordid philosophies of life perplexes me beyond measure.

Whereas the 25th Amendment provides means to lead him away in a white jacket, the whores of the Senate are content to have an insane person representing them, rather than risk losing their cushy lifestyles in DC.

Can the world tolerate this fool, so in need of intervention and mental care, for another two years?

A Case for Euro-American Studies in Universities

Does it not strike you, my fellow white American, that whereas there are various ethnic and gender studies programs in many universities and colleges across the US, there are really no equivalents (to my knowledge) that focuses on white people in America.

There are African-American programs, Asian programs and women’s programs – but no “white boy/girl programs.”

Does that not strike you as reeking of ignorance?  Here we are well into the 21st Century, and we white Americans think we know ALL about ourselves.  And from that perch we render judgement, demean, rob and pillage those who could be great allies within humanity.   The truth of the matter is we know very little, at least about that which should really count in our lives and relationships in a growing diverse, soon-to-be minority-majority Nation.

Sure, we know some of what was “taught” to us in school and later in college, for those who went.  Liberal college programs of course offered opportunities to study about European history and culture, and the white-washed versions of American history and government, et cetera.  But have you ever considered that you did not really learn about white America is its raw and unexpurgated nakedness?

Have you ever asked yourselves, what is white culture?  Is there one white culture in America?  Or questions like what really is the “white trash” class in America?  Or what traits and characteristics, driven by historical cultural antecedents and religious agents, has resulted in “us” being what we are today, especially with respect to living with those who are people of color?

By exploring for answers to such questions, perhaps we would find what caused and continues to cause, our hunger for controlling others, and our penchant for greed, violence and war.

Moreover, I think that within such studies, we should seek answers as to why so many white people are racially prejudiced, and of course, why so many are outright racists.  This topic begs critical analysis, for two reasons.

Presently those of us who are prejudiced and racist are creating a tension that may break the very core fibers of what America can be at sometime in the future:  a place of peace, of prosperity and acceptance for all interests and expressions of life.

Secondly, we white people really owe it to ourselves to shed the hard cocoon of enmity toward those who do not look like us (keep in mind we are mutants).  James Baldwin said once that (white) people’s history is impaled like a butterfly on a pin, which is even a better trope to make my point:  we white people will never realize our God-given potential as human beings while we continue to flutter, caught in the trap of our own hate.

So, this is the case I make for “white studies,” that we can begin to understand who we really are, and accept our place in a world of all colors and beliefs.

Also, I don’t know how much “room” there is left on Mt. Rushmore, but I do hope one day we will see a president of color, and of course, a female president there.
