What could possibly go wrong in 2020?

I have always loved getting those little stickers as I leave the voting stations, the “I Voted” ones, you know.  My chest even sticks out a little more, at least in my mind.  This is a feeling that we all can partake of in this country, and at least in some other nations that right of voting is also enjoyed, although often surrounded by controversy.

I have no doubt that the election in 2020 will be surrounded by just that.  I have no doubt that BMT (aka…..crazy hair guy in the Oval Office, better known on my blog as Bottomless Moral Turpitude) will lose the popular vote by a wide margin, regardless of who the Dems put up to run.  However, as in 2016 the electoral college voting may very well  be that breathes new life into he who sucks life out of America.

The Republicans, aka Citizens Council, have totally stalled Congress from providing the level of funding to states needed to replace their voting machines and provide for backup paper ballots.  So, that is one problem.

Then there is the matter of alien forces diligently working to throw the swing states and the electoral college in their favor.  Russia obviously will want him re-elected, because many of the oligarchs stand to come out better in the long run with him remaining in office.  China and Iran likely will endeavor to push the vote toward the Dems.  So will the net result be a zero sum?  No one knows of course, but given the coziness of BMT with Vlad, and with BMT on record saying he would take information and assistance from Russia (again), the odds would tend to favor him.

I have no doubt at all that If BMT does not get the win, he and the Citizens Council will file many, many lawsuits to confuse the entire election decision, very likely the matter winding up at SCOTUS.  Well, we know how that will go.

So with all the excitement presently as to who will win the Dem nomination, ultimately it may not matter.  However, if the election seems to be going in BMT’s favor, I am equally fearful that Dems will pour into the streets in protests across the country, and do everything possible to block his “coronation.”  This could get very ugly, very fast.

I am always an advocate for having a Plan B.  I highly advise Americans who long for a new president, to have a Plan B, and be ready to put it into effect immediately at that time.

A Good Time to Practice the 3 Antidotes

As a Buddhist, often I need to kick myself in the butt to remind me that there are ways, even in these troubled times, to maintain equanimity of my spirit mind.  As any Buddhist will say, in her or his own words, there are three root poisons that work to impede our divine happiness, those being anger, greed and confusion.

Today, as throughout history, we easily can discern these 3 poisons infecting American society at large, regardless of one’s political persuasion, or apolitical posture.  So these poisons not only infect an individual, but spread like rotting fruit in a barrel,  pervading all society, ebbing and rising over time. This infection is always present, everywhere in the world, and has been since the proverbial Eve picked the apple (uuummm, that juicy, tasty apple!)

However, the antidotes to any or all 3 of the poisons must first be given to individuals, one at a time.  The antidotes are always present, in each of us, but have to be spiritually accepted.  And, only the individual can decide voluntarily to take the antidotes, as the curing effects will not be realized if forced upon she or he.

Everyday we witness all 3 poisons flowing and defiling our humanity.  From the highest political office in America, varieties of the 3 are pumped through channels of willing receptors, who often do not even recognize their sickness.  But every action has a reaction, so those who oppose the policies of the present Oval Office, likewise allow themselves to be infected with other strains of the 3 viruses.

So what are the antidotes?

  1.  To counteract anger:  Loving-kindness.  We must remind ourselves that each human being is just that, no more, no less, and strive to feel empathy and compassion for the challenges others are confronting that impede and block them from being the loving person they each have the potential to be, as we all do.  They are not responsible for our own feeling of anger, as no one can control how we feel if we are masters of our mind.  By cultivating a sense of forgiving, unconditional love for those who otherwise infuriate us, our internal anger will be restrained.  This does not mean we are not also responsible for externally working to arrest those in the grips of hatred from committing acts of violence or harm; by restraining them from such actions, we are actually helping them.
  2. To counteract greed:  Generosity.  We must overcome our own desire in the political realm to want everything to be the way we want it.  Our world view may have many good qualities, but it is just our world view, for none of us is omniscient. Generosity can also be expressed by reaching out to those whose views differ from us, offering a white feather of peace and a gentle request to explore together the root issues that separate us.  Lastly, generosity will not be sustained externally if we each do not strive to be more generous – consciously generous –  in all our social interactions, whether with a partner, a child, family or other close associations.
  3. To counteract confusion.  Wisdom.  With wisdom comes the faculties to negotiate this treacherous sea we live in daily.  All the great minds, philosophers and spiritual keepers knew this.  For instance, Proverbs 4:7 reminds us to get wisdom, get understanding.  Personally I like to use the term “overstanding,” to convey the higher quality that true wisdom exhibits.  One way of gathering wisdom is to practice critical analysis.  I have mentioned this a number of times in my posts.  I truly believe that if more and more younger students can be exposed to critical analytical discourse, then the fallacies, delusions, illusions and overall confusion we see today will diminish over time.  Most of those who have views supporting the Oval Office I believe are in a state of utter confusion and delusion, because they are not skilled in critical thinking, to search for the truth in any situation.  For instance, blaming immigrants for Americans being unemployed will fly in the face of logical cause and effect analysis.  Hating someone because of their skin color or customs also will be cooled when real exploration takes place.

Having spoken about these antidotes, I realize too that behind the anger, greed and confusion lurks what we can label just pure evil.  I truly believe that there is a negative higher force that is always present in the human mind, which will exist always (until we all attain enlightenment…..but that is another matter).  We see pure evil at work in the mass murders recently, but pure evil rears its supremely ugly face throughout all history, whether the genocide in Rwanda or Cambodia, or the Nazis, or the fire bombing of cities by the Allies.  When we allow evil to appear it always will.  Only the 3 antidotes keep it in check.

So having written this to share with you today, I commit to myself to do be better at taking my antidotes, and not push away the spoon like a sick boy who pushes away his mother’s hand with the spoonful of nasty medicine.

Peace and blessings be with you all.

Ever heard of the (White) Citizens Councils?

During the Jim Crow days there was across the South, and even beyond the South, often in any southern town with a post office and a few stores, a “Citizens Council.”  Members were usually the “better heeled” local citizens, and in larger towns and cities might be bankers, large business owners, large land owners, and so on.  Their main and only reason for being was to maintain their dominance over the black population.  Every tactic was used, and was readily at their disposal.  During the day they were “respectable” church-going citizens, and by night or off in the woods, many donned the white hoods and “became” the KKK.  Often they would enlist poor white men…..men who might be “managers” of plantations or overlords of field hands picking cotton….to do the “dirty work,” meaning beating, torturing, murdering and burning to the ground the homes of black men and their families, perhaps for having been “uppity.”  The Councils also could inflict financial and economic pain on Blacks who got crosswise with them.  The tactic of cutting off credit, refusing to sell goods to the Black store owner, calling in loans, and so forth, were used often against Black men and families who were fighting the Jim Crow system.

Now fast-forward some 50-60 years, to August, 2019.  The Citizens Council has time travelled to the United States Senate, in the form of the white Republican conference.  These “great citizens,” representing mostly older white people across the country, are doing everything they can short of calling in loans or dragging opponents off into the woods, to remain in control.  Blocking all forms of gun control, white domestic terrorism prevention bills, and generally playing havoc with any movement that might be humanistic.

But like the Councils of old, these old white guys, so fearful of losing control of society, will too slowly fade away.  Can’t wait.

Trump’s Human Shield

Forgive me for breaking my vow of not using “his” name, as I had committed to using BMT (Bottomless Moral Turpitude).  Today though I wanted there to be no doubt about what my headline is about:  the President of the United States of America using Hispanics as a human shield to protect him from what really is inevitable, his conviction as a super criminal.

BMT will do anything to win the next election, not to facilitate any program for “making America great again,” rather to assure he stays in office, thereby delaying indictment on multiple offenses due to time elapsed since he committed certain crimes.  He knows that he faces criminal charges and probably the collapse of his empire built of Joker cards if a Democrat wins in 2020.

Backing up BMT is of course Moscow Mitch (I like Massacre Mitch better), who, along with other sorry ass human beings, aka Republican Senators (no all, but most) who only care about maintaining their office in a cushy situation in D.C., who could care less about any people of color, and Hispanics make a handy scapegoat based on the false logic and lies that BMT has promulgated the last three years.

So, it really doesn’t matter how many more brown lives are lost in the minds of these people, so long as their NRA/ scared white men back home get what they wave their guns about.

Most of our Presidents have been racists.  But I never thought I would live to see one who hides behind people of color to protect themselves.  BMT is no better – no he is worse – than Islamic terrorists, who have used innocent civilians to shield them.  The fact that he is our President amplifies this atrocity exponentially.  How many more will die as a result of his cowardice?

White men lost in the matrix of hate.

What is it about some white men that leads them to the worst kind of hate: hating another human being for the way she or he was born?  I do believe that if one could, by means of some super sleuth device that’s part time machine and part AI God, trace the origins of racism in white men in America, one would find they have been caught up in a matrix of naivety, ignorance and confusion that manifested a few hundred years ago, and has been a force that has lurked in the recesses of twisted minds since.

I have come to believe that racism in large part, is a form of mental illness afflicting a particular demography of white males within every generation in our country.  (Note: of course what I say applies to many white females, but thankfully they do not often express themselves by being creators of carnage.) I don’t think one can challenge an argument that America has many historical and cultural attributes, at the intersection of which is a mental “black hole” like those in deep space, that literally sucks in susceptible white men’s minds.  Once in the pull of the black hole, they cannot escape after passing a certain point.  Their mental and moral decay at that juncture radiates an anger that is entirely destructive, in fact, is evil itself.

Now racism is a form of hate based on an invalid Zeitgeist that has traveled through time, morphing along the way, generation by generation.  In the mid-Twentieth Century it was manifested profoundly in Germany, infecting a large part of the population, even though it had already taken hold here in AmeriKKKa long before.  Really this country has been built on hate, when one takes a serious look at our history.  Every immigrant group that has come to theses shores has hated the other group, with those arriving more recently receiving the brunt of the hate of those already here; and, then there is the matter of the genocide of First Peoples.  But the racism of white men hating people of color is a unique brand of such hate, giving them the “justification” to commit atrocities like at Wounded Knee, and the now countless mass murders over the last three years.

Here is one article asking if racism should not be considered a mental illness, or at least explored as such.  I agree with most of the article, as it lays out what to me is obvious, that one way to begin to “cure” racists is by exposing white racists to those persons of color in a way that can lead to person to person transaction.  I don’t know where one might begin to practice such an experiment at large, but within our prison industry might be a good starting point.  It is a fact that if two people of different “persuasions”  are forced to confront one another in a situation that depends on their mutual cooperation, they tend to begin to see the other as “human” and not a mere object to receive their hate.

https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/the-pacific-heart/201708/after-charlottesville-is-racism-mental-illness

I think this approach should be seriously looked into.  Of course, we can not use pleas of insanity by domestic terrorists or other racists that have harmed innocent people; but, we can attempt to root out the mental/spiritual cancer of racists and try to “fix them.”

Another “approach” to preventing or curing racism, I believe wholeheartedly could and should began in secondary education.  In previous posts I have suggested that a reason for so much of our problems as a country is the inability to critically analyze problems, or “problems.”  Using the  Socratic method of discussion, showing young people how to analyze and unravel the threads of a problem or condition, so they can separate the real threads from the perceived fallacious threads, would without a doubt contribute to youth who carry that ability to seek truth into adulthood.  Racism will not flourish where there is truth.

A Boy’s Blood

I went to bed last night trying to get the true story of Emmett Till out of my mind.  I awoke this morning with that boy still on my mind.

I wonder what he would have grown up to be?  A young teenage black boy in 1955, apparently outgoing, smart, with a good sense of humor. Murdered in the most atrocious way by two grown white men, possibly with others, possibly with even one or two black hired “assistants”, for Emmett having had the “audacity” to allegedly “come on” to a young white woman – a Mississippi “lily” and wife of one of the murderers – Emmett, his short life and his horrible death, became the major inflection  point in the civil rights movement ensuing from that point to this moment.  While we will never know for sure all of the details and participants in his murder, it is unimportant at this point.  What is important is that we NEVER forget what happened to him.

Of course I have known a little of the story for many decades, but only just recently have I sought out more information.  What prompted me was viewing an interview on one of the major news tv channels of Timothy B. Tyson, about his latest book “The Blood of Emmett Till.”  I haven’t even finished reading it, a thoroughly researched and investigated history book, scholarly written to capture the full context of Emmett’s murder in the days of Jim Crow, and what the event, “witnessed” around the world, meant to the civil rights movement.  Mr. Tyson actually sat down and interviewed the Mississippi “lily.”

Then I found this documentary story on You Tube, which is rather long, but thorough, with interviews of his mother many others who were caught up in this sad story.  It is not easy to watch, but we should.

Today, with all the hate we are witnessing, with old “norms” suddenly coming out in the open again, encouraged by BMT (Bottomless Moral Turpitude….that which occupies the Oval Office), and a significant portion of  his base of supporters, we who stand to defeat such hate must not forget the past.  That past is really not distant at all.  Many of the sons and daughters and their children of those who belonged to Citizens Councils, KKK, and many other collections of white people who committed acts of terrorism against blacks and their few white supporters during the 1950’s and later, are still very much alive today.  I would like to believe that most have turned away from such racism, but the fact is that many have not.  The ghosts of the murderers of Emmett Till, and those who murdered so many other black people during those days, walk the Earth.

Be vigilant O Warriors of Truth and Love.

The Mask of Racism Today

Racists in America today are crafty, stealthy and often intelligent, daily finding ways to pull a mask over their intentions, words and activities.  Favorite generic methods of disguising their racist Weltanschauung typically are obfuscation, denial, rationalization, use of “alternative facts,” historical distortion, and attempting to flip their rhetoric when challenged to say the subject of their attack is really the one who is racist.

Racists today are generally just “slick” publicly, and you might never know for sure of their hateful feelings, even if you sat and had dinner with them.  However, people of color in particular are well endowed with an innate “racist detector.”  After over 400 hundred years of continual oppression, blacks have no problem detecting the vile vibes of racists, no matter how well they try to tuck it in.  Blacks remember vividly scenes in their history, like the one below, of a black man, Allen Brooks, lynched by a mob in 1910, right in downtown Dallas.  Today people dine outdoors at this major street intersection. I myself at one time lived a stone’s throw from the spot.  If one sees a HD version of the photograph, one will see very young boys and girls, and women in the crowd.  Back then, whites could openly display their racism at any time, in fact it was their way of life.  I think it is mainly only because of civil rights laws, that many of the progeny of those who hung this man, and hundreds of others, or dragged black men behind pickup trucks as in the case of Mr. James Byrd, dragged to his death by two sick racist men in 1998 (only 20 years ago), here in my Texas, are kept in check; otherwise, I think we would see many, many more instances of racist violence.

lynching dallas 1910

On one hand there is the temptation to feel that racism will “fade away” if the subject is not injected continually into the public discourse, and if the flames are not fanned.  I think this is wholly naïve.  Many whites who sat and did nothing, accusing Dr. King of “stirring up trouble” – passed on their attitudes to their children, and at least some of that is being passed on to Gen X, Y and their children.  So racism is truly inter-generational.  For this reason, I totally advocate confronting racism on every front, on every street, in every setting, on the job, in the pews and not giving any quarter in this continuing civil war.  This is not the time to be timid in standing up for justice.  The price of not doing so is the USA becoming a failed state.
